Bedroom

example of lighting a bedroom

Have you any lighting tips for bedrooms?

Yes, plenty! As with all rooms in the house, the key to successful lighting lies in planning at the outset. Plan where you plan to put your bedroom lighting and which type of lights you need.

You need good ambient lighting ie overall lighting which you will need for general activities and then task lighting in the shape of your bedside lights.

Choose bedside lights which either:

Can be used as a pair on bedside tables and will act as features in the room.

Are small scale and unobtrusive, freeing up space on your bedside table for books, etc.

Wall lights are particularly good for bedrooms when used ether side of the bed or dressing table. See our wall bracket range in the lights section. You may also like to consider using picture lights as an alterative.

Make sure that you fit a wall switch beside each side of the bed so that can switch the main light off from the bed.

A pair of lamps either side of the mirror on your dressing table not only looks good but gives well balanced light for making up by.

Dimmer switches are a must for bedrooms; fit them to the source of your ambient light, whether this comes from an overhead light or a wall lights around the room. Remember, though, that you must use low voltage dimmer switches on any low voltage fittings; you cannot fit a mains voltage dimmer so check before you buy.
