Dining Room

example of lighting a dining room

What do you suggest for dining room lighting?

It depends on the style of your home of course, but usually people tend to choose a dramatic or glamorous pendant as the focal point over the dining table, supplemented by wall lights and table lamps on a side table nearby. Rise and fall lights are also a good idea (see Kitchen FAQs).

Downlighters may also play their part in the lighting scheme but will generally be switched off or else dimmed for actual dining.

The key thing is to install these different elements of your lighting plan on different circuits so that the lighting is flexible enough to be able to create atmosphere.

For special occasions, supplement your lighting with that most ancient form lighting – candles.
