Does Christopher Wray Lighting stock all the lights shown?

Our range is huge and it is not feasible to keep stock of all the lights in our ranges at any one time. That said, we aim to keep our most popular items in stock all the time, but for other items, please allow for an ordering time. We will advise you of this when you order, will keep this time to the shortest we can and undertake to keep you advised of the progress of your order. top

How do you charge for shades and bulbs?

Except for lamps sold with their own specified style of shade, we charge for shades separately. This is because we offer a wide selection of shades, all costing different prices.

A lamp fitted with a paper lampshade will cost less than a lamp fitted with fabric or silk shades. We give you the flexibility to create the look that you want in your choice of shades.

The same applies to bulbs/lamps as there are different types available especially with candle bulbs. Also, you may not need to buy bulbs at the time you buy the light. top

Do you deliver lights?

Yes, we can arrange delivery to any part of the UK and abroad. Delivery charges will vary accordingly to the size and weight of the lights to be despatched and the distance between the specified destination and our central London warehouse. When you place your order, we will give you a quotation for delivery charges. top

Does Christopher Wray Lighting offer an installation service?

Sorry, but we do not offer this service. Instead we suggest that you contact the National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contractors via their website on www.niceic.org.uk or call them on 020 7564 2323 for details of your nearest NICEIC accredited electrician. top

Can I install my lights myself?

Unless you are a qualified electrician, we do not recommend that you install any of our lights yourself. top

Where are Christopher Wray Lighting’s lights made?

Many lights in our ranges are made using traditional techniques in our Birmingham factory. Others are developed and manufactured to meet our specifications in Europe. top

Are your lights solid brass?

Yes, our brass lights are solid brass. top

Do wall brackets come complete with screws?

For the most part, we do not do this. This is because we don’t know anything about your walls! You need to choose the screws that are short/long enough to go into your particular walls. That is why we leave you the flexibility from the outset to choose the type of screw you need, rather than allow the possibility of leaving you with the frustration of finding that what we supplied is not right for your particular requirements. We do this from experience! top

Can I fit dimmer switches to downlighters?

Yes, you can but only if information about the fitting says you may. Our sales team will advise you.

For mains voltage downlighters using GU10 lamps (bulbs), you should choose a dimmer switch with double the total wattage of the lights you will be connecting to the dimmer switch.

Remember too that you must fit low voltage dimmer switches to low voltage fittings; you cannot fit a mains voltage dimmer switch so check before you buy. top

What do you mean by lighting accessories?

Anything from lighting basics such a bulbs/lamps (standard GLS, low energy, coloured and toned bulbs, low voltage capsules), plugs, sockets, switches, flex (plastic and silk-wrapped for a period look) to paper, cotton, linen, silk and glass lampshades, ceiling hooks and chains for chandeliers and other lights.

We also stock a range of accessories for oil lamps. top

What is halogen light?

Halogen light is characterised by its sparkle, clarity and bright white colour.
Halogen fittings are available now in mains voltage and low voltage versions.

Low voltage versions are particularly useful (indeed, they must be used) where there is any risk of water coming into contact with a fitting. These use a transformer which literally transform the larger 240 mains voltage supply that is standard in the UK into the lower 12 volt supply. Transformers have to be concealed in a ceiling void.

The advantage of using mains voltage halogen downlighters or spotlights is that they do not need a transformer so you do not have to find a space in which to hide them, nor have this additional cost over and above that of the fitting. top

How many transformers do I need for my low voltage halogen lights?

This will depend on the number of lights you are fitting and on their wattage. The total wattage of lights must not exceed the wattage specified on the transformer. If it does, you must fit additional transformers accordingly. Also you will need more than one transformer if the lights you are fitting are more than a metre away from the transformer itself. top

What is a dichroic halogen bulb/lamp?

These have a special coating so that heat is reflected backwards into the light fitting rather than forward into the room below. These are usually used in downlighters for this reason. top

What is tungsten light?

This is the yellower light to be found in more traditional light bulbs such as the standard GLS light bulb we are all familiar with. top
