The Best Way to Overcome the Post-Christmas Blues

Now that Christmas—and 2018—is over and done with, you may be feeling the post-Christmas blues. You’re not alone in that.

It’s easy to feel down now that the celebrations are over for another year, and so quickly at that. It often seems that holidays take years to arrive and then pass by in mere seconds, leaving you feeling empty and perhaps even grieving the past moment.

If that’s you, maybe it’s time to invest your energy in a new and different kind of project. Maybe it’s time to redesign your interior! Redesigning your interior is a great way to revitalise your house and also your mind, giving you something new to focus on.

If all goes well, the end result of such a project will be a happier you—and a fun and inspiring space that you will love for days, weeks, months and years to come.

Choose a new colour theme for your rooms

Christmas is often a time for red and green, blue and white, and silver and gold colour themes so putting away your decorations and leaving Christmas behind for the year may leave your house looking bland or colourless.

If that’s the case, consider what you can do to brighten things up. Choose a colour theme that makes you happy and find a way to inject it into one room or even all the rooms in your home. Christmas isn’t the only time of year that you can decorate and create an environment that makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Include indoor plants in your decorating

Indoor plants can bring life into your home—both literally and figuratively. Plenty of plants are well-suited to life indoors, whether in a pot, hanging pot, or planter box, and all can thrive in the right conditions.

Put plants in pots or planter boxes that match their size and position them based on their size too. For example, a small tree might go well in the corner of a room or next to a couch. A small plant in a pot may make a great centrepiece to a table or be a good focal point to take up most of a side table.

Repaint your walls

Even if all you do is repaint your walls, you will notice a huge difference in the feel of the room that you redecorate. Choose a paint colour that complements your furnishings and one that creates the right mood.

For your kitchen, you may prefer lighter, airier colours, while pastel colours may suit a bedroom. If you don’t want to repaint entire rooms, an alternative is painting smaller images or shapes onto some walls. Some people paint quotes from books that inspire them and we suggest using a stencil for the best possible result.

Rearrange and redecorate

Another way to redesign your home is to rearrange your pre-existing furniture and redecorate. Put away some of your more commonly used items and bring out something new. You can even swap furniture and knick knacks around between rooms for a different vibe. Mix and match old and new to create a new look without having to go over your budget.

There are plenty of ways to freshen things up so you just have to be a little creative.

If you’re feeling the post-Christmas blues, redesigning your interior can refocus your energies and help you to find some inner peace again. Sounds like a win-win, right? We certainly think so!
